JOE: I personally made sure Congresswoman Bentley could speak, so I cannot agree with your assessment. By the way, her facts and statements were recently disputed one by one by an eminent scholar, Dr. Sami Repishti. This will be put in the Congressional Record for balance and fairness. That is the American way!

AMB: (Turning to DioGuardi) You cannot pressure us! Come to Yugoslavia and meet with Serbs and others. See the full picture before you take sides.

TOM: Mr. Ambassador, I think this was extremely helpful -- the beginning of a dialogue. But, Mr. Ambassador, assume for a moment that all of us suddenly become disinterested in the Albanian issue. My own judgement is that the Albanian/American community has just recently emerged with an identity here. The Albanians are learning how to work the political system. Today I believe that Albanian/Americans here are acting moderately. Their next step will be to hire the best public relations company to plead their case in Washington and escalate things further. I want to avoid that. I am a conciliator. Let’s work together.

AMB: I’m ready to talk further and to learn.

(Meeting concludes on a somewhat cordial note with all shaking hands and Congressmen running to make first vote of the day.)
