Dear Gus:

I am writing to you regarding my strong interest in the plight of ethnic Albanians living in Yugoslavia. I have been actively involved in this issue since coming to Congress three years ago, and as you are aware, I have introduced a Concurrent Resolution expressing concern over the conditions of the Albanians living in Yugoslavia.

We both realize the importance of Congressional investigation and correction of human rights abuses which are occurring around the world. The situation in Yugoslavia is especially needy of attention from the United States so that the persecution of the Albanians who are living there can come to an end as quickly as possible.

I would like to request that the Subcommittee on Human Rights and International Organizations hold hearings on the situation of ethnic Albanians as a precursor to the mark—up of H. Con. Res. 162. The leadership you have demonstrated in the field of human rights has certainly left its mark on the entire issue; it is crucial that the committee continue to work to correct the gross violations of human rights that are currently taking place in Yugoslavia. We can join efforts to focus both congressional and public attention on this issue that has been neglected for so long.

I thank you for your attention my request and I look forward to hearing from you shortly.

Sincerely,

DioGuardi

Congress
